I read the Peter Salm translation of "Faust" by Goethe back in the 90s, but now my friend Tom Boyce sent me the Bayard Taylor translation to read.
Early in his career, Goethe wondered whether painting might not be his true vocation; late in his life, he expressed the expectation that he would ultimately be remembered above all for his work in color.
